Great Bible Studies Attract Spiritual Warfare

We are getting ready to launch a new campaign at Saddleback Church for Easter. It is a message that Pastor Rick Warren will touch thousands of people with a word that is so desperately needed. I am both excited and anxious as we launch our study “Miracle of Mercy”, the week of April 9, 2016.

This article is for those that are both participating and leading any Bible Study. I remember when I was leading studies at the Woman’s Bible Café online with Christine Abraham. We have numerous conversations and prayers over leaders who were preparing  to start a new study. It was a common occurrence among all of the leaders right before a study and during the entire study. It never failed, cars would break down, plumbing pipes would burst, kids would act crazy, marital strife would occur, if you could name it, it probably happened!

Some of it is humorous now to think of, notice I said “some of it”, but one thing we could count on, it was coming! God is amazing though, He always worked it out for us! One thing we could always count on, we grew as people, most importantly closer to God and His Word!  Christine and her leaders still lead amazing studies, and she has an amazing network of women who love God and are disciples for Christ! For a great study for women I encourage you to check it out!  http://www.womensbiblecafe.com.

One of the things that we must realize, that spiritual warfare increases and can seem very intense. To a new leader, this can be not only frightening, but unexpected! Even participants in the Bible Study can expect some increased warfare in their lives. It is nothing to be afraid of, because God is always in control but something just to be cognizant about. It is coming!

What I love about God is that He always prepares us and gives us a solution to every problem that could arise. I love Ephesians 6:11-18, because it gives us a breakdown on how to surround ourselves in God’s Word.

The Scripture states:

11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:11-18, NIV, Biblegateway.com).

I love this! He gives us step by step instructions on how to protect ourselves.

John 10:10 says, ” The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (NIV).

So if you have warfare around you , get excited! Get excited because God is getting ready to pour into you something amazing! You are going to lead ones to Christ that either do not know Him, or in a place of staleness in their relationship with God. Get excited, and pray hard for your groups, your leaders, your Pastor. We all need  one another, and lives are getting changed one soul at a time.!

Easter time is a very busy time for churches, at Saddleback we prepare our leaders months in advance to ensure that not one person is lost in the process, and definitely not one soul is forgotten.

Be encouraged!

Jeremiah Study: Daring to Hope in an Unstable World~ Week One

your life message

I just started another Bible Study; I have a habit of doing several at a time. I bought the book last week, and kind of flipped through the pages but had not sat down to dive into the content until this morning. The study is called “Jeremiah: Daring to Hope in an Unstable World” written by Melissa Spoelstra. I must tell you that I am completely blown away at the depth and content of this study! It is really good!

The first chapter talks about Surrendering, “raising the white flag” which I thought was really interesting. It is quite obvious that we are in a world of sin, of defiant behavior and a turning away from God. Reading the newspapers every day proves that theory.

God is very detailed in his Word; He has always given us clear instructions and an excellent guide of instruction, the “Bible.” He calls each and every one of us and gives us each a gift and a purpose. Our role in life is to follow his leading and direction and complete the task that He has given us. He knew our capabilities even before we were born. (Jeremiah 29:11). The study goes on to say that, “God’s mission for us as followers of Jesus is to go when and where He sends, to speak His words, and prepare for action without fear.” That is the key, He is given us all the tools that we need for his mission, but we must overcome and put away our own insecurities and fear. Fear is a show stopper; it will paralyze us in our tracks, preventing the completion of things that we are fully capable of doing. It is Satan’s main strategy along with self doubt to try and stop the work of God. Satan knows he cannot stop God, but he can use his vessels to stop the completion of our purpose.

Pride is another thing that often gets in the way. God has also covered that problem with a solution: “in Luke 9:23 he instructs us to turn from our own selfish ways. Take up the Cross daily, and follow Him.” Note the word daily, I guess he knows that we need to do this on a consistent basis!

The author made one statement in the first chapter that really drew me in, “Delivering and obeying God’s message of surrender takes faith and obedience. Once we’ve taken that step, it is often tested by fire.” In the study of Jeremiah, it gives a good example of that in Jeremiah 38:4-6 when it discussed Jeremiah’s result even after he was faithful to God’s direction. Jeremiah was dropped in the cistern, and sank in the mud.

“Sometimes even when we obey completely, we end up in a pit. Life still happens, friends may betray us, husbands leave, jobs are lost, health declines instead of improves.” “

“These are the times when we need to trust God’s greater plan even though our circumstances are screaming foul”

That should not happen right; I mean we are doing what we are supposed to do? The answer is knowing God, and who He is, and trusting with obedience to see that God has the overall plan, the “big picture” even when it makes no human sense. Oh and by the way, God didn’t leave Jeremiah in the pit, he actually sent thirty men to get him out, and there was no water in the cistern, it was only mud to hold him temporarily. So even though Jeremiah didn’t know what was going on, God did, and Jeremiah just kept being obedient.

To sum it up remember this, “God wants to give us rich, satisfying abundant life (John 10:10), and He knows we won’t find it apart from Him.” The key is for us to realize this as well. Trust in Him, no matter what you think or see in your mind, and know that “Our ways are not His ways”, His ways are better!

“Our reward waits for us in Heaven”

Excellent Bible Study Software that is Free!

There is nothing like turning and touching the pages of the Bible as you study Scripture! The feel of the pages, the highlighting of the words, brings you that much closer to God. There are times during intense Bible Study that you want to quickly look up Scripture after Scripture, without having to flip through page after page during an intense study, so here are a few very good recommendations for great software!

E-Sword

I absolutely love E-Sword, a Bible Software written by Rick Meyers. The layout is very easy to follow, there are several Bible Editions that you can download at no cost, and if you prefer to use NIV or HCSB for example, you can purchase those for a minimal charge; I think I paid 9.99 for the HCSB version, a onetime fee. Excellent! E-Sword also has Commentaries that you pick and download and several versions of Bible Dictionaries as well. It has a selection of books that you may choose from as well as other reference books as well! My favourite part is the section that you can use to write your own study notes, you can save your finished notes either under the date, subject, or as a daily journal. The software even has several colors of highlighters to use to highlight important scripture as well. If you a hand’s on person like me, that is a plus!!! It also has a version for you iphone and the Ipad as well. The link to this is http://www.e-sword.net.

Prayer Journal X5

I love my prayer journal software! It is free software written by Hall Miller Ministries. http://www.hallee.org/PrayerJournal.htm . It is somewhat of data entry software, and it is very easy to use. It also has a downloadable instruction manual, so be sure to include that in your download. I can actually enter individual names and it will keep a log of the date and information I entered is saved, then the next time I go back in, I add my additional notes as well. You can either keep your prayers for them on-going, or once a prayer has been answered, there is a place for you to enter the answer as well! I absolutely love this software, for you can make it as easy or as advanced as you like, it is all up to you! This software is great for serious prayer warriors who want to add details and Scripture when praying for a person!

Penzu

I am a person that when I pray I prefer to write them down. I find that I easily get distracted when I am praying silently, and my mind tends to wander so this software is perfect for me. It is an online journal, which can be password protected, and tracked by date. The actual title of your log for that particular date is saved so when you see your menu it will show you the date and the title of your entry. Very cool! You can buy the updated version, for a yearly minimal fee, which I believe is 19.00 a year that includes very cool stationary, and fonts to use, it is your choice, the free version has been perfect thus far. The website for this software is http://penzu.com.

ITunes University

ITunes has a great part of their program, it’s the ITunes University. If you go to the ITunes store in the iTunes university section you can find hundreds of study videos from selected universities that are used in their actual classes!  This is a great way to utilize free additional resources to enhance your learning environment. I recommend Liberty University, but I am partial to them for that is my Alumni!  http://www.apple.com/itunes.

You-Version Bible

This is great software to use on your computer, Ipad, or phone. I absolutely love the fact that it will read the Bible aloud to you and offers so many Bible translations, including the HCSB, which is my favourite. https://www.bible.com

Pastor Study

This is an absolute must have for small ministries, churches, or even a Bible Study teacher. It has an area for contacts, journaling, lesson planning, pray requests, library for all your books, and so much more!  You can find this online at RCL Software http://www.rclsoftware.com

Hope this helps you along in your studies!

A Gift from God~ The Book of Matthew.

The more I read the Bible and listen to God’s Word, the more that is revealed to me. I watched Pastor Rick Warrens new sermon which is part two to the series Jesus Makes Headlines, titled “The God of Second Chances.” I knew that I was going to like this sermon just based on the title, I am so thankful for second chances. (okay who are we kidding, third and fourth chances are pretty awesome too!).

It starts in the book of Matthew  9:9-13 ” Jesus Calls Matthew”. I always liked the name Matthew, it’s a Biblical name that I named my oldest son after. It means a gift from God.” I always perceived that to mean, that Matthew the name, meaning my own son was a “gift from God.” Looking back now, I realize of course that it probably meant the same thing even before I named my child that, but after today’s reading I realized it was much more. (smile).

Starting in chapter nine, verse nine through thirteen, it talks about how Jesus called Matthew.

Matthew 9:9, ” As Jesus was walking along, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow Me and be My disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed Him.” (NLT).

When you read it like that, it seems so simple, so black and white, but to fully understand the Grace and Mercy of Christ, you must dive deeper into the passage.   In the passage above, it says that Jesus “saw a man named Matthew.” In order for Jesus to physically see and call Matthew, ( or take note of Matthew), he must have had knowledge of who Matthew was, and what his character was about. We know this because we know that God is all-knowing,  (omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscience). It is safe to say that he would not have called Matthew over had he not had prior knowledge of what Matthew about, so we know that He made a conscious decision to use a lowly, sinful, tax collector .That is the one of several really cool things about Jesus, He uses ordinary, imperfect, sinful people to do the will of God. He takes the ugliness and turns it around for His Glory. It is safe to assume that we see story after story of Jesus using people to do His will, so that means knowing he uses imperfection and turns it around, He can surely use either you or I today. I will list below things that we have discovered about Christ. (I will use the emphasis of  I or me).I love that if He did it for others, He will also do it for you and I.

1. Jesus see’s me as I am.

2. Jesus loves me for who I am, a sinner.

3. Jesus will call me and use me in the state that I am now.

4. Jesus loves me so much that He will not leave me like I am.

5. When Jesus says “Follow Me” He is inviting those he calls  to a whole new life.

I love this statement the most, “Forgiveness and Salvation is God’s greatest gift to you. How will you respond to God’s calling ? Will you do like Matthew did, get up and leave everything, stepping out on Faith to serve God?

I love that Jesus saw past Matthew’s imperfections and sins, He saw what Matthew could become for God. Everyone else in Matthew’s life looked at his past failures (taken from the sermon notes).

My question to you is this, “Knowing that God loves us, looks past all our shortcomings and failures and still loves us unconditionally, will you be willing and waiting to serve God? How can you personally with your talent, desires, and gift’s further the Kingdom of God to bring Him Glory?

Starting a Christian Women’s Ministry Online.

I was just thinking about a conversation I had with a friend about two years ago, she told me out  of the blue that i was going to have  a ministry for God. I listened to her that day, but had no real desire in my heart to have any ministry other than teaching Bible Study classes here and there. I have always loved learning about  God’s Word, and sharing with other woman what I had learned, but never thought about having a Christian Ministry.  I think of what was said back then, It makes me smile. It is amazing to look back over time and see the fullness of God, watching His plans become realities and using normal, ordinary, everyday people to do his Will. I always have known that when God has a purpose for you, or plans for his people, He will make a way, opening doors for opportunity, and using all circumstances for His Glory,  lifting and using any willing person as His vessel that is open and obedient to hearing His Will.  I love this, and most importantly,  I love that He does what He says He will do, and He is who He says He is!

I started teaching Bible Study online a few years ago. I was in another Christian Women’s Group leading Bible Studies, and had done so for about a year or so. I was very happy there, and was excited to see the ministry grow. I was able to use creative ways to create more study groups for different genres of Bible Study. We had just created a Prayer group, that was growing and flourishing. I was very content there, but looking back now i realize God had other idea’s for his Kingdom. All of a sudden, for unknown reasons, there was a misunderstanding with the founder of the group, and I was asked to leave. To quickly fast forward the story for understanding on where I am today, I will quickly say that I was hurt, felt rejected, because I was comfortable, and at home with “friends”, but was not reaching out for God’s people, the one’s who needed it the most, the lost. We often get comfortable with our clique of other Christian friends, but to be a true Disciple of Christ, it is not to just fellowship with other Christians, but to reach the one’s who do not know Jesus. I used the social media Facebook to start a group so that I could finish the study that I was doing with the ladies in my group from the other ministry.

I am in awe of the ability to take social media and use for God’s glory! Social media is the wave of the future, it is how almost everyone communicates and stays in touch with other people. It is also amazing to see how it is being used for the Kingdom of God! I am in awe of how people from around the world, at any hour of the day, can come together to communicate, chat, study, and share about God and His Word. There are thousands of groups being used today on Facebook alone: prayer groups, fellowship, Bible Study, small groups, and even online churches.

We are reaching those that are home-bound, disabled, lonely, hurting and in need of God’s Word. I am in awe of what churches are doing online as well. I belong to Saddleback Church, and Pastor Rick Warren from way back, has always believed that the Kingdom of God will grow using small groups of people connecting daily, weekly to share the love of God and learn His Word. I see the connections as an Online Small Group host and Associate Community Leader with Saddleback. I urge you, get involved with a Christian ministry, whether it be with your own home church,  a church that is using the internet for God’s Glory, such as Saddleback, or social media to fellowship and study with other Christian Believers.   My ministry is WAWL  Women’s Ministry, and I use the social media Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/WAWLMAINGROUP/.

Saddleback Church has thousands of small groups online at http://www.mysaddleback.com . You can find us there as well under WAWL Ministry.

God’s Design for Your Life will transform your group whether it’s been meeting for years or just started during the Transformed study. (taken from Saddleback Church).

March 30: “Choose Joy’ written by Kay Warren, led by Cynthia Sullivan on Sunday night 7 pm Eastern time,  and Thursday 9PM Eastern time.
Synopsis:
Ever wonder why some people seem to experience joy in their daily lives–even in the tough times–and others can’t seem to find it no matter how hard they search? Is a joy-filled life really possible?

The answer is yes! And it’s possible for every woman, no matter what her circumstances may be. In this inspiring book, Kay Warren teaches women what joy really is, where to find it, and how to choose it in the good times and the bad. With compassion and wisdom, she shows readers–even those who live with the constant companions of discouragement and depression–that true joy is deeper, richer, and more accessible than they might think. Perfect for small groups or individual reading, Choose Joy will empower women who feel like their emotions and well-being are at the mercy of others by helping them understand the life-giving truth that joy is within their grasp–every day. Transformation Study~ Week Two Your Physical Heath

“Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

 Daily Devotions
Day 8: 1 Cor. 6:19-20

Day 9: 2 Cor. 12:9

Day 10: Isaiah 40:29-31

Day 11: Phil 4:13

Day 12: 2 Tim 1:7

Day 13: Proverbs 3:7-8

Day 14: Phil 1:6

In week two of the Study Transformation by Pastor Rick Warren we learned several key elements for improving our physical health and why it is so important to our overall wellbeing. We are to be stewards of our physical bodies. As in the beginning, the Word said that God dwelled in the tabernacles, and then David built the temple for God’s presence. When the temple was destroyed, God would not reside there. God is not willing to remain in darkness and sin, and in knowing that our bodies are the current temple for God to remain through the Holy Spirit, it would only make sense that it would have to be properly taken care of and nourished. Satan knows this and does everything in his power to tear down and destroy the physical structure that God uses to reside in us. It is not that God cannot reside there, for He has all powers, but that He will not reside there in sin.

We internalize our bodies as a self-reflection of our own souls. If we love ourselves, and have a positive self image, we will take better physical care of our own body. It is through the physical vessel of our body ( our energy)  that God equips us to fulfill His purposes. Just as a automobile is used to transport a person from one destination to another, our physical health is our transportation for fulfillment of our Purposes.

What are we suppose to do to maximize wellness? We are to prepare our body as a holy, living sacrifice to worship God. We are to remain pure, wholesome, and physically fit so that God has a place to dwell in us, by taking good physical care of our body, our mind,  and our spirit. Worshipping God by providing our body with proper nutrition, adequate sleep, lowered stress, and exercise are the physical ways that we show God our commitment and desire for His presence. (Romans 12:1).

In the Bible for every promise that God gives, there is a premise. The premise is something that we either have to do, or it has to occur in order for the blessing (reward) to be fulfilled which results in His action (His Promise).

When we as his children honor him positively with our physical body (premise), this results in maximum health sustainment including weight loss, and other positive physical qualities of life. (His Promise).

“I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live and may love the Lord your God, obey His voice, and cling to Him. For He is your life and the length of your days that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”  Deuteronomy 30:19-20

I highly recommend that you participate in the Bible Study “The Daniel Plan” at Saddleback Church.

The website www.danielplan.com is full of so many great suggestions, Scripture, and other ways to maximize optimum physical health.

Take a look at the Essentials that were taken from the website www.danielplan.com :

• Faith: God is the power and energy behind all transformational change and that includes making the lifestyle choices necessary for you to become healthy. As you follow The Daniel Plan, you will discover that you have a part to play in getting healthier, but God will energize your efforts and give you his strength to do it (Philippians 4:13).

• Food: The Daniel Plan is about abundance, not deprivation. You will be invited to eat delicious whole foods that bring vitality and energy to your body and mind. It’s all about learning that even your food choices can honor God and his purposes for your life (1 Corinthians 10:31).

• Fitness: We believe the most effective form of exercise you can do to achieve lifelong health is the one that you will actually do. We encourage you to discover movement that you will enjoy and treat your body as a gift from God (1 Corinthians 6:19−20).

• Focus: In a world where so many distractions compete for your attention, it is more important than ever to renew your mind with truth (Romans 12:2) and break negative thought patterns. Focus your thoughts on God’s plan and priorities for your life. Express your gratitude to God and make the choice to dwell in God’s goodness.

• Friends: When it comes to getting healthy, two are always better than one (Ecclesiastes 4:9). The Bible says God created the universe in such a way that we need each other. One of our key beliefs in The Daniel Plan is that everybody needs a buddy because, in truth, we are better together.

Transformed in My Spiritual Health ~ Week 1

transformed

“Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Cor. 5:17 (NIV)

This week we will talked about transformation in our Spiritual Health. Rick Warren describes the seven habits  that is needed to have a positive spiritual health:

1. I must love Jesus Supremely. (Luke 14:26). Spiritual health is measure by Love.

Mark 12:29-30 “  “This is the most important,” Jesus answered: Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’

2. I must meet with Jesus Daily. (Proverbs 8:34) “  Anyone who listens to me is happy, watching at my doors every day, waiting by the posts of my doorway.’  You talk to God via Prayer, He responds back to you through His Word.

3. I must Study and Do his Word.  (Psalm 1:1-3)”   How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path of sinners or join a group of mockers!   Instead, his delight is in the LORD’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night.  He is like a tree planted beside streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. “

4.  I must tithe my Income. (Malachi 3:10)”   Bring the full tenth into the storehouse so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this way,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure. ”   You can never out give God!!

5.  I must learn to love other believers! (John 13:35)  “By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

1 John 4:20, “ If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For the person who does not love his brother he has seen cannot love the God he has not seen. “

Spiritual Growth happens in Community!

6.  I must serve others unselfishly. (Mark 10:45) “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life–a ransom for many.”

7. I must pass on the Good News!  (2 Timothy 2:2) ” And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. “

Rick Warren goes on to say that” We are going to Heaven because somebody told you about Jesus Christ. Don’t break the chain, tell other’s about Jesus. If you don’t tell somebody then who is going to tell them? Jesus says to be a Disciple you must pass on the Good News.

” Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:19-20
